Word For Mac 2011 Cursor Disappears
I see it in Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 14.4.7(141117) on OSX Yosemite 10.10.1. This cursor disappearing isn't happening on a newly, locally made document, but is occurring on an older locally created document. Feb 17, 2015 My cursor disappears suddenly while I am writing something in any office program (word, excell, powerpoint, outlook) or IE. When I click, cursor appears but disappears again. Sometimes it stops disappearing and sometimes it continuously disappears. The text cursor, or, is normally in the visible form in applications at the start of its display cycle. It then goes to the flashing sequence once you stop moving it with arrow keys or typing. However, in Word 2011 I'm constantly frustrated because the cursor disappears, or defaults to the invisible state of the flashing sequence, while I'm typing or moving it. This makes it painfully difficult to edit text without using the mouse.
As I write this post and keep going back to word I'm noticing that it seems erratic as to what behavior it's acting. I think that it stays in whichever state it was last in, which 50% of the time is invisible. I've since changed the blink rate to 200ms via. This helps a little in my frustration, but the behavior really needs fixed.
Update 2014-09-02 It doesn't appear to be a problem on documents created locally. It seems to be an issue with documents I've got from elsewhere, quite possibly from other operating systems. In my case, the copy/paste of the document did not work. But after a bunch of tries, I found a workaround: Move the mouse pointer outside the Table area! Yeah I know it sounds weird. But if I use the keyboard arrows to move the cursor in a table cell while the mouse pointer is located inside that table, the cursor will annoyingly start disappearing. This seems related to the Move icon appearing in the upper-left corner of the table when you move in the mouse pointer, which keeps switching on/off when you use the keyboard.
BTW I'm using Word 2011 v14.4.8 (latest as of now).
Word For Mac 2011 Reviews
I'm running Word (Office for Mac 2011) in Snow Leopard and Word does 'weird things' in that environment, too. The activated audio alerts will simply cease mid-work session, for example. And its compatibility with Pages leaves a lot to be desired (but in ways that really ought not to occur between two major software packages).
I'd say, when using Word, simply prepare to accept that you get eccentric functionality (to put it politely). However, an AWOL cursor is indeed a little too eccentric for comfort. It does sound like a Lion issue. Alternative method I used BigFish's method (thank you!) and it fixed it, but then kept reverting. I've discovered that the disappearing cursor seems to be occurring in documents that used a previous version of Microsoft Word, and are showing up as 'DocumentTitle (Compatibility Mode).' So what's worked for me is to copy all the text in a document, remove the last paragraph mark or character, and paste into a new 2011 Word document--which now comes complete with cursor. This might be obvious or too tedious, but wanted to post it in case anyone else was having trouble with a permanent fix for this.

Cursor and duplicated text problems in Word Hi, I have a related but different problem, wondered if anyone had knowledge about.
