How To Backup Photos On My Passport For Mac
Hi I have recently had a problem in trying to restore my backed up data etc from my WD MY Passportinitially I tried to load Yosemite but my laptop simply froze, I could not even get into it, I took it to Stormfront ( from whom I bought the Mac ) in short they could not helpso they arranged to have it returned to Apple, they eventually managed to load in Yosemite and asked if I had backed up my laptop, as I had in fact I backed it up roughly every 20 days or so, they said they would have to wipe it and return it to factory settings, so I agreed. On return to me I tried to access my backed up files, but I had to provide the password to unlock the WD My Passport, and upon entry, all that I get is the current reset back ups. I can get into my old back ups which have numerous backup files dated from 2012 until 2014, but when I go into them there are files there but none that will allow me to restore the filescan anyone give me any ideas please??? Regards Tommac1.
I installed the WD anywhere backup software from my external Passport Elite and am trying to restore all my backed up files. I keep gettin the message that the operating system is not supported. “WD Anywhere Restore cannot be run under this version of Windows.”.

Hi Jube104, thank you for replying to my post, as you can guess I am an old foggie, and I am not sure what programme you require, I simply plugged in my WD My Passport external drive, then went up to the little clock like logo on the top right of my Mac and selected backup nowI did this every time the mac said I had not backed up for at least 11days or so. If there is a way of identifiying the programme please help me identify it and I will then let you knownot much to go on, but I hope you can help, I had a lot of family photos in my iphoto programme that are no longer there and I would like to retrieve them and my sons wedding video from imovies.
In both cases it appears that I now have the latest version of both these programmes. Regards Tommac1.
Want to back up/save my photos to an external hard drive both for safety and for portability. I use an iMac, but everyone else in the family uses PC, so ideally I'd like to be able to use the drive on both systems. I have been looking online and it looks like FAT32 may be the answer. As I'm sure you can tell I am new to all this and just wanted to check that formatting the My Passport to this format will be agreeable to the Apple operating system. I have an iMac, iPad 3 and iPhone 5, if this makes any difference. Any advice would be appreciated.
FAT32 is a portable filesystem and Mac OS X supports it. FAT32 does not support the full range of Mac filename characters and lengths so use FAT32 compatible filenames. In fact OS X supports the Microsoft filesystems better than Microsoft. I once was on a PC (not by choice) and it slowed to a snails pace when I plugged in a particular USB hard drive. I took me 15 minutes just to shut it down.
I plugged that disk into my Mac and it immediately told me what was wrong and asked me if I wanted to use it in read-only mode. I said yes and I recovered all of its data onto another MS formatted drive using the Mac to copy it. FAT32 is a portable filesystem and Mac OS X supports it. I definitely won't be using it for Time Machine but can I clarify something about the library storage?
