Apple’s MacBook Pro has long been a favorite among professional photographers. A big part of it is, of course, that it runs the same macOS many of them run on desktop computers. Just curious what everyone thinks about which device is more suited for the amateur photographer (I don't make any money off this - so I have to be somewhat price conscious about paying for bells and whistles that don't offer great value for money. Looking at all the iMac Pro literature - it seems it's geared towards video/software/scientists/graphics designers - but it never mentions photography - is this level of power overkill for lightroom? I'm thinking of getting the iMac 2017 with the i7, 16GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD.

Is the SSD really work that much more than a fusion drive? It's by far the most expensive upgrade - so really thinking twice about that. I'm thinking of getting the iMac 2017 with the i7, 16GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD. Is the SSD really work that much more than a fusion drive? It's by far the most expensive upgrade - so really thinking twice about that. If you don't need a mobile device, get the iMac. It is a better value, uses better components, has a larger screen (important for still photographers).

Go for the SSD, absolutely, if you can afford it. As spec'd, it's a great machine that will be relevant for many years to come.
